About the CAIR Action Guide
A civic voter-guide tool for the Muslim-American community.
The CAIR Action Guide helps voters find candidates endorsed by CAIR Action in their own electoral districts. Enter your home address and the guide shows the endorsed candidates for the races on your ballot — federal, state, county, city, and judicial — alongside an explanation of each endorsement level.
How we make recommendations
Recommendations are made by CAIR Action's endorsement team based on candidates' public records, policy positions, and engagement with the Muslim-American community. A candidate can earn an endorsement by meeting the requirements of our candidate questionnaire, or on the strength of their voting record and public positions, whether or not they formally requested an endorsement. This site publishes those decisions; it does not generate or change them.
Recommendation levels
- Endorsed
- Strong alignment with our values. The candidate strongly aligns with our values and has shown a proven commitment to justice, civil rights, and human dignity. Examples can include opposing Islamophobia or supporting a ceasefire in Palestine or an arms embargo on Israel.
- Preferred
- Supports many core issues; a better alternative. The candidate supports many of our core issues without fully aligning with our values, and is a positive alternative to opponents whose positions are harmful to our communities.
- Joint Endorsement
- More than one candidate aligns with our values. More than one candidate in the race aligns with our values. Research each candidate's platform independently, and follow your ballot's instructions for how many candidates to select.
- Neutral (No Recommendation)
- No recommendation either way. There is not enough information about the candidate's platform, or the candidate's positions are not sufficiently aligned with our values to warrant support.
- Opposed (Oppose)
- Harmful stances; we recommend voting against. The candidate has taken stances we consider harmful to our communities. Possible reasons can include supporting the genocide in Gaza or promoting Islamophobic rhetoric or policies. We recommend voting against this candidate.
Examples describe possible reasons for a designation; they are not statements about every candidate at that level.
Voting in a race with a joint endorsement
A joint endorsement means more than one candidate in the race aligns with our values. We encourage you to research each candidate's platform independently. Follow the instructions on your ballot for how many candidates you may select in that race.
How addresses are matched to districts
Your address is sent to a geocoding service to look up the coordinates, which are then matched against U.S. Census Bureau district boundaries (the Census geocoder, or the Census TIGERweb service when the geocoder is unavailable) to determine your federal, state, county, and city districts. Endorsements for the races in those districts are then displayed.
This product uses the Census Bureau Data API but is not endorsed or certified by the Census Bureau.
Status & feedback
This guide is currently in Beta — the data set, race coverage, and address matching are actively being expanded. If a race or candidate appears missing or incorrect, use the "Report a missing race" option on the home page so the team can follow up.
